This is a light-hearted story about a rather special dog; interspersed with some ruminations, notions and digressions also having a mainly canine theme.Cerberus was the mythical hound guarding the entrance to Hades. The title is meant jokingly, for much of the book concerns the tale of a dog which joined a young family living in a strange country and anything less like a hell-hound than the amiable and lady-like Sally is hard to imagine.A second motif is a whimsical play on the words Dog and God - each the orthographical inverse of the other. This augments the anecdotes about a particular canine; our long defunct but unforgettable Sally. A prosaic name but a singular being. There are also several digressions; some are even vaguely relevant. The English language has many phrases incorporating the word God; reversed it becomes Dog. Clearly dogs do have a less eminent place in human affairs but it seemed amusing to play with some of these phrases to see how they might perform with this converse association. Our family had the great fortune to be associated for fifteen years with a particular dog, and like many people we became emotionally attached to a special and noble companion. This book is an affectionate memorial recounting the story of Sally’s advent and with anecdotes about her and some of the other creatures in and around the household. There is also a supplement with some additional material
