Libro: A Cheveley Lad

This account of my life is written for future generations of my family – it’s a record of an ordinary village boy from Cheveley, Cambridgeshire, who met a girl from Newmarket, Suffolk. Together, we built a partnership that lasted sixty years – fifty-six of them as husband and wife.
We often reflected on how lucky we were to have found each other and stayed together through the ups and downs of life, even while pursuing our own individual interests. We were blessed with three wonderful children, each of whom built their own lives, married and never gave us cause for worry.
Born in the 1940s, I could never have imagined the scale of economic, social and technological change we would witness – especially the arrival of the World Wide Web and the internet.
From humble beginnings as a village lad, I became Managing Director of my own company – Financial Planning Scotland – which provided financial services from 1991 until 2018. I hope those who read this find it interesting – and perhaps see a little of their own story in mine.
