The words “practicing God’s presence” just mean developing a conscious recognition of God’s nearness. The Bible clearly shows God is omnipresent—He is everywhere—and how much more so for those in whom Christ abides. When speaking of “the practice of the presence of God,” Brother Lawrence is referring to the cognitive acknowledgment of how close God is to us. God wants to be on the other end of the continuous conversation in our minds.
