MISRA C:2025 Guidelines for the use of the C language in critical systems. Updated in March 2025, this is the current version of MISRA C with further incremental updates This document supersedes all previous versions of the MISRA C document (published in 2023, 2019, 2012, 2004 and 1998).

The MISRA C Guidelines define a subset of the C language in which the opportunity to make mistakes is either removed or reduced. Many standards for the development of safety-related software require, or recommend, the use of a language subset, and this can also be used to develop any application with security, high integrity or high reliability requirements.

As well as defining this subset, these MISRA C Guidelines will: Provide educational material for those developing C programs; Provide reference material for tool developers.
