A Gift of Ashes: The Legend of the Gifted Princess

The end of the present civilization has long since come and gone. Humanity endures in tiny pockets of isolated groups surviving in feudal communities in what remains of the world. History has become a blur between myth and ancient fairy tales. Princesses of the old stories are admired as heroic figures who protected the world and who current princesses are expected to aspire to. Legend says that young princesses reach an age when she will discover a unique, mysterious Gift. Once she has her Gift, she may renounce it to simply rule her humble kingdom or embrace her Gift to follow her calling and be remembered among the old, sacred tales that are told to other young princesses. Sheltered from the knowledge of her calling to prevent her from seeking her rightful place in the stories, Elizabeth is forced beyond her village to discover her Gift and find her place in the legend with only the knowledge she has from the stories of village elders and nomadic merchants. Unaware of the dangers of the world, Eli begins to uncover a plot much larger than her village that threatens the Legend of the Gifted Princess.
